Pyongyang, Oct 9 (Prensa Latina) - The Democratic People s Republic of Korea made a successful underground nuclear test Monday, which it rated as a "historic event," KCNA news agency informed.
The announcement was made at a time when the country is developing cultural, sports, and political activities for the 61st anniversary of the Korean Labor Party, founded on October 10, 1945.
Security conditions for the test were fully guaranteed, and there were no risks of radioactive emissions, KCNA reported.
According to an official release in Pyongyang, the nuclear test, carried out with full Korean knowledge and technology, "will contribute to defend peace and stability in the Korean Peninsula and nearby areas."
