Actualité - EU to Analyze Iran Nuclear-Issues

Brussels, Jul 4 (Prensa Latina) - EU High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy Javier Solana will analyze Wednesday in this capital with Iranian representatives for nuclear affairs Ali Lariyani a proposal put together June 2 in Berlin.

According to reports, the meeting is aimed at debating Teheran´s possible response to that proposal, approved by the five UN Security Council members (United States, Great Britain, France, Russia and China) plus Germany.

Solana´s spokesman stated that prior versions of that meeting in Madrid were only a misunderstanding.

The six countries´ initiative threatens international sanctions for the Islamic Republic if it does not end its atomic program, especially uranium enrichment, and discloses several economic incentives to achieve that end.

Germany´s proposal refers to an offer to facilitate agricultural trade, sale of equipment and technological cooperation like fuel supply for the nukes.

France, Germany and Great Britain signed an agreement with Iranian authorities in Paris in November 2004, with arguments similar to the Berlin initiative.

That time, Teheran promised to join to the Non Proliferation Treaty´s Additional Protocol and allow larger inspections by the International Atomic Energy Organization.
