Actualité - Arctic Rapidly Melting

Washington, May 3 (Prensa Latina) Thawing in the Arctic Sea is occurring three times faster than estimates of models of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), indicated the Geophysical Research Letters journal.

In the last five decades, summer reduction of the ice cap in the region is occurring much faster than estimates by expert on climate change.

Analyses by the National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSDIC) indicated that thawing in summer is 30 years ahead of IPCC statistics announced in a meeting in Bangkok.

According to evaluations, the North Pole will lose its white cap before forecasts of the Intergovernmental Panel.

The experts suggest that if emissions of carbon dioxide to the atmosphere are not reduced, the Arctic will lose its summer ice from 2050 to 2100.

NSDIC results are based on current satellite measurements.
