Actualité - US Deploys More Soldiers to Baghdad

Baghdad - Another 3,000 US soldiers arrived this week in Baghdad, as part of efforts by the US and Iraqi governments to restore order through a controversial security plan.

According to a military release, the fourth brigade of the Fort Lewis second infantry division will be deployed in the capital and its surroundings, to help Iraqi forces "clean up, control, and reduce violence." This new group is one of the five that should arrive in the Arab country to reinforce the plan implemented on January 14, comprising 17,500 troops.

Over 80,000 US and Iraqi soldiers are currently positioned in the capital and it proximities, where special measures are being taken, with no effectiveness so far.
