Actualité - Most Israelis Want Olmert Out
Ramallah - As many as 68 percent of Israelis want Prime Minister Ehud Olmert to step down, while members of his party Kadima continue threatening to resign.
A survey by Dialogue independent polling firm also revealed 40 percent of the 500 interviewees support early elections, something unlikely to happen, according to Avigdor Itzchaky, chief of the Kadima parliamentary group.
Similarly, 85 percent of those polled call for the resignation of Defense Minister Amir Peretz, main partner of the ruling coalition, according to Haaretz daily.
Were elections moved up, Israelis would vote for the leader of Likud party and former Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni, and former executive chief Simon Peres, in that order.
During an extraordinary meeting today, Olmert will suggest that the cabinet create a so called reflection committee to correct the serious mistakes detected by the Winograd Commission.
