Actualité - Democratic Women for Cuba Five Release
Lisbon, Apr 26 (Prensa Latina) - The Women's International Democratic Federation (WIDF) Executive Committee has condemned the imprisonment of five Cuban antiterrorist fighters in the United States and demanded that country's government release them immediately.
The resolution was adopted at the end of a three-day meeting held Monday in Alcochete, where attendees decided to hold the 14th WIDF Congress next year in Caracas, Venezuela.
The text on the Cuban Five states that Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labañino, Antonio Guerrero, Rene Gonzalez and Fernando Gonzalez have been unfairly imprisoned in the US since September 12, 1998.
The document states they are totally innocent and their supposed crime was gathering information about terrorist plots by anti-Cuban organizations in Miami, Florida, in an effort to prevent the deaths of Cuban and even United States citizens.
The resolution contrasts with mistreatment the Cuban Five have suffered in prison and the privileged treatment of criminals like Luis Posada Carriles and Orlando Bosh, confessed masterminds of the explosion in the air of a Cubana airplane with 73 passengers in October 1976.
The WIDF executive committee demands the immediate release of Gerardo, Ramon, Tony, Rene and Gerardo, application of real justice in this case, respect of their rights and allowing them to have contact with their relatives as US laws establish.
