Actualité - Roar Rises for Five Release
Havana, Jun 20 (Prensa Latina) - The solidarity campaign for the release of five Cuban anti-terrorist fighters unfairly imprisoned in US for fighting terrorism is rising on an international scale, the Cuban daily Roundtable TV Informative Program reported.
The Five, as they are universally known, are serving unfair and harsh sentences ranging from 15 years to double life imprisonment for merely defending their country from terrorist activities by extreme right groups of Cuban origin in southern Miami.
After eight years of unfair prison, the program's panelists analyzed Monday the increasing solidarity by international committees who demand their immediate release.
On August 9, a panel of three judges assigned by the US Court of Appeals 11th Circuit in Atlanta reversed their convictions, declared the trial null and remanded a new trial outside of Miami.
Fernando Gonzalez, Ramon Labañino, Antonio Guerrero, Rene Gonzalez and Gerardo Hernandez are considered heroes here due to the lives saved from terrorist attacks.
