Actualité - Israeli invasion: bloody Thursday in Gaza

Ramallah, July 7 (Prensa Latina) — Israeli supersonic hunters today bombarded residential areas in the north of the Gaza Strip, a few hours after the announcement that this Thursday was the bloodiest to date in the invasion of this area.

The magnitude of the number of civilian victims could be measured by hospitals issuing a call to the population to donate blood, already scant due to the number of people hit by rocket shrapnel.

No less than 112 people have been admitted to hospitals, mostly suffering from serious injuries, according to the same sources, while the funerals of 24 victims of indiscriminate firing by Israel troops passed by in the streets.

Another 27 individuals, in their majority children, have been wounded, according to incomplete counts.

The resulting chaos has made it difficult to know the total of dead and injured since June 25, when Tel Aviv launched an operation on the Autonomous Region for the release of a soldier taken a few days previously by a Palestinian commando that penetrated one of its military units.

The whereabouts of the soldier, aged 19, are unknown and his parents have called on the government to listen to the demands of his capturers: to release women and minors abducted and incarcerated in Israeli prisons for nationalist activities.

In parallel with the aerial bombardments, Israeli troops penetrated refugee camps and took away young men and women thought to be members of the Islamic organization Hamas (Fervor in Arabic).

Since the beginning of the occupation 30-plus ministers and officials of the autonomous government headed by Hamas have been abducted and taken to Israeli jails.

The grouping won the parliamentary elections in January and in March became the government, to the anger of Tel Aviv and the rich Western countries, which decreed a boycott of the new cabinet on account of its reticence to admit the legality of the state of Israel.

The invasion is seen by Hamas leaders as an attempt to defeat the government and liquidate them.

At the same time, the huge operation, completely disproportionate to its announced objective to release the captured soldier, has derailed the Israeli-Palestinian negotiating process, whose fate is now more than uncertain.
