Actualité - Palestine Rushes to Stop Israeli Escalation
Gaza Strip, Jul 1 (Prensa Latina) - Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas held talks with foreign international, seeking to halt the aggressive Israeli escalation, according to Palestinian Deputy Saeb Erekat.
Erekat said Abbas talked over the phone with European, US and Arab officials, without receiving "a positive response" but they pledged to knock all doors to end "the cruel offensive" against Palestinians.
Erekat´s efforts joined those by Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and the Palestinian Authority, which also failed given the Israeli refusal to cooperate.
Amid this situation, Islamic Resistance Movement leader Mushir al Masri made the release of soldier Gilat Shalit, who was captured at a military base on Sunday, conditional on that of one thousand Palestinian prisoners.
Israel used this situation as pretext to launch a fierce offensive against Gaza Strip.
US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has branded the aggression as self-defense, while President W Bush said Galit´s liberation is paramount to for a way out, according to UN Security Council spokesman Frederick Jones.
Meanwhile, the Israeli army continues pounding facilities in Palestine.
