Actualité - US People Protest War in Iraq

Washington, Jan 27 (Prensa Latina) - Anti-war activists are staging on Saturday mass rallies in 50 US cities to demand an end to the conflict in Iraq, according to Leslie Cagan, representative of United for Peace and Justice.

Cagan added those protests, which will take place in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle and Washington, among other cities, aim at pushing Congress to stop sending US soldiers the Arab nation.

According to the rejected initiative of President George W. Bush, 21,500 new troops will be sent to Iraq, where over 3,000 US soldiers have died since the invasion began in March 2003.

Among organizing groups are True Majority, Working Assets, Rainbow Push Coalition, the National Women Organization and United for Peace and Justice.

In the meantime, the website unitedforcepeace.org in Austin, Texas, announced that the Stop the War coalition will organize a student parade in which the Green and Veteran for Peace parties will also participate.
