Actualité - Venezuela: We Are Not Afraid!

Franc-Parler publie une dépêche rapportant les réactions du vice-président du Venezuela, Jose Vicente Rangel, aux exercices militaires américains dans les Caraïbes.

Caracas, Apr 19 (Prensa Latina) - Venezuelan Vice President Jose Vicente Rangel discarded US attempts to intimidate his country on Wednesday, and described such a venture as ultimately unsuccessful and "senseless".

Rangel made the remarks to journalists in Bolivar Square, at the close of the ceremony for the 196th anniversary of the beginning pro-independence process in Venezuela.

Referring to US military maneuvers in the Caribbean, he said, "Let's see how close their ships get," adding that "Military powers think they can intimidate the people, but intimidation time is over."

On Tuesday, also referring to the US war "games" in the Caribbean that Venezuelan authorities consider a threat against their country and Cuba, President Hugo Chavez recalled the long history of US interventions in the region, but said "we are not afraid."
