Actualité - World battle against FTAA

Havana, Apr 14 (Prensa Latina) - International networks and campaigns integrated into the movement against free trade agreements and neoliberal globalization proposed that a world network of legal experts for "A Better World" be created.

Members of those groups attending the 5th Hemispheric Meeting against the Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA) in Havana maintained that network will ensure legal orientation of the struggle against the US-concocted project to re-colonize the continent.

They urged to organize the battle against foreign debt, terrorism, privatization, neoliberal globalization and any other policy that prolongs poverty and social injustice.

Following 12 years of the implementation of the first free trade agreement signed by the US, Mexico and Canada, people of the Third World are poorer and there is more unemployment and lower wages, proving that any similar project has "already lost the first battle in Latin America," they noted.

A female representative of the Latin American Network of Legal Experts condemned the militarization of the region and called for the defense of human rights regardless of race, sex, disability and beliefs.

Participants in the Hemispheric Meeting against the FTAA are slated Friday to discuss common issues identifying their condemnation and alternatives to the plan intending to extend and strengthen the US economic and political dominion over the western hemisphere.
