Actualité - Bolivia Rejects New US Attacks

La Paz, Jun 27 (Prensa Latina) - The Bolivian government denounced on Tuesday new US aggressions, calling them political provocation against the country´s stability.

Presidential Minister Juan Ramon Quintana responded with those terms to declarations by Washington´s main anti-drug official John Walters, regarding that the current Bolivian Executive does not collaborate enough with Washington in the struggle against drug trafficking.

These assertions by an official of the US agency for cooperation, on supposed anti-democratic dangers in Bolivia, as the previous ones, are "rash, unfounded, and motivated just by political interests," Quintana said.

President Morales said on Monday, before Walters´ comments were announced, that George W. Bush is trying to damage with false accusations, the majority support of the Movement Towards Socialism (MAS) government party in the election of the Constituent Assembly on Sunday.

The president explained that Washington knows that MAS will win with at least 70 percent of the votes, thus it is launching accusations against that party´s administration.

Quintana told Prensa Latina that Walters´ assertions seem to show a political offensive to rid authenticity and undermine the government´s authority, with arguments that ignore the clear and determined Bolivian policy against drug trafficking.

He demanded that the US administration understand the government´s anti-drug decision.
