Actualité - Chile Students on National Strike

Franc-Parler publie une dépêche de Prensa Latina News Agency sur le déclenchement d'une grève nationale des étudiants chiliens. Les étudiants veulent des changements profonds dans le système d'éducation au Chili pendant que l'État tente de diviser les étudiants.

Santiago de Chile, Jun 5 (Prensa Latina) - Supported by 100 social organizations, Chilean high school students began a national strike Monday, after having rejected a government plan to improve education.

The demonstrators denied the student movement is splitting, and complained authorities are pressuring to try to dismantle the student Assembly, the governing organ of the organization.

"We deny any possible division. It is the government the one that has tried to split the movement, but that has not been possible," stated student leader Karina Delfino when opening a conference after the nearly two-hour private meetings with authorities.

Meanwhile, Sanhueza, another leader, explained the movement is no longer pursuing economic demands because, according to him, they have been met, but seeks profound changes in the Chilean education system.

The students have urged their followers not to take to the streets, but disturbances are not ruled out in the capital and some regions.
