Actualité - Iran Defends Peaceful Nuke Development
Teheran, Apr 27 (Prensa Latina) - Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad repeated Thursday that he refuses to stop uranium enrichment, part of its nuclear development program for peaceful aims, which the executive considers an inalienable right.
The dignitary issued his declarations 24 hours before the meeting of the UN Security Council devoted to the matter.
The Security Council could sanction Iran with the agreement of all its permanent members but, so far, views on the issue are divided.
However, threatened with the possibility of sanctions, Ahmadinejad asserted that the international organization does not understand that Iran is powerful enough to resist disapproval by imposed measures or force something it considers a right.
The president ratified the peaceful objective of the Iranian atomic project and rejected US pressure on the Security Council to impose sanctions if Teheran does not stop the uranium enrichment.
According to Washington, supported by France and the United Kingdom, Iran is cloaking military interests under civil nuclear projects. Meanwhile, Russia and China, other permanent members of the Council, refused possible sanctions against that Persian state and favored a diplomatic solution.
