Actualité - IAEA Inspectors Arrive in Iran
Vienna, May 20 (Prensa Latina) - Inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) are supervising Iranian nuclear facilities, the Vienna-based UN specialized body said on Saturday.
The four-strong delegation arrived in Tehran on Friday night and on Saturday morning the experts began the inspection of the uranium conversion center in Ispahan and the research reactor in the Iranian capital, the IAEA added.
Harassed by the major nuclear powers to relinquish its right to get fuel for its electricity-generating reactors, the Islamic Republic prohibited the IAEA on February to carry out surprise inspections of its facilities.
In April, Iran resumed its experiments on enriched uranium, which it had voluntarily stopped two years ago.
On Wednesday, President Mahmud Ahmadinejab described as "nuts and chocolate" the new offers from Europe and the United States for his country to give up research on nuclear fuel technology.
The offers would include cooperation in that field and in the economic sector, according to diplomatic sources.
Rejection of the offer, which has not been officially announced yet, would lead to the adoption of economic sanctions against Iran at the UN Security Council, a measure that has been opposed by Russia and China.
